Environment Configuration

It is the state and the list of resources composing an environment at one point in time.

Configuration of an environment is composed by different types of information:

  • Environment Status (ex: Up, Down, Booting,...)

  • Deployed Application (ex: version deployed, dataset version, applicative components)

  • Infrastructure (ex: URL, operating system, hardware information, credentials)

Environment Configuration evolves over time.
Change Management is the process that plans changes of environment configuration (ex: application deployment, infrastructure upgrade, creation of a new environment,...) over time.

Unplanned events can also affect the environment configuration (ex: crash of a server, hardware failure, bugs,...)
